Description
Thank you for checking out my listing! Up for bid today is an original real photo postcard of the flood that occurred July 24, 1911, at Dexter, New Mexico. This wonderful postcard shows the scene at the Santa Fe train depot, and was taken atop one of the rail cars to show the extent of the flood at the depot. Dexter is a smaller community in New Mexico that, according to the 2019 census, had a little over 1100 residents. This card shows a great and hard-to-find view of a neat event in the history of the small town! The postcard is in good condition. There are some small areas of damage, such as light scratches, scuffing/rubbing, dinged corners, and a small bend in the lower right corner. There is some light staining as well, but most of it is out of the field and closer to the edge. There are no other major creases, bends, damage, or missing parts of the postcard. The postcard was postmarked October 19, 1911, and was sent from Dexter to Marengo, Illinois. There is a small message on the reverse as well. The pictures I took don't do the postcard justice! The image is very clear, and when zoomed in on, great details can be seen, such as the markings on the rail cars, the sign on the depot, and even two gentlemen standing on a dry patch at the depot. Numerous other buildings can be seen in this raised-up view, but the key is the old depot, which stands proudly at the center.
Overall this is a beautiful RPPC of the depot and flood at Dexter from 110 years ago! This would be a fantastic addition to any railroad collector or local Dexter historian!
